Texas 5 Minnesota 4 July 7, 2012

It took 10 innings but the Rangers managed to end their 5-game losing streak yesterday with a walk-off win thanks to Nelscon Cruz’s RBI double in the bottom of the 10th.  That my friends is their first win in the month of July!!!  Once again the Ranger offense wasn’t stellar.  They went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base.  But this time, Nelson Cruz managed to come through twice with an RBI double in the 2nd and the game winner in the 10th.  Josh Hamilton added a solo homerun, his 27th, in the 4th, and Adrian Beltre added another solo shot in the 6th, his 15th this season.  Both Cruz and Beltre went 3 for 5 and both of Cruz’s RBIs came by driving in Beltre from 2nd base.   Elvis Andrus continued his short-term slump.  He went 1 for 5 and struck out twice.  He’s lowered his batting average from .306 to .294 in the last 4 games.  It was nice to see Hamilton immediately back in the lineup after leaving Friday’s game with back spasms.  Usually when they tell us that Hamilton is day-to-day that means 4 to 6 weeks.

Derek Holland, in his first start since coming off the disabled list, pitched 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4.  He started off a little shaky, giving up 2 runs in the 2nd inning, but settled down, and minus a homerun by Josh Willingham in the 6th, he cruised through most of his innings.

The win improves the Ranger’s record to 51-34, with a 4 game lead over the Angels.
