A few notes on the recent games that I haven’t posted about yet.
What I think surprised most of us was that, Saturday night, Derek Holland outpitched one of the best starters in the league. It’s hard not to like Justin Verlander. He’s an incredible pitcher and, from what I can tell, he’s a nice guy. He definitely doesn’t appear to be an arrogant douche like Tiger closer Jose Valverde (pictured below).
But Holland was better. Not much better, but still…better. He threw 7 2/3 innings, only gave up 3 hits and 1 run, and struck out 9. Verlander went 7, giving up 1 run on 7 hits, and struck out 8. Detroit was on a tear coming into Arlington. They had won 21 of their last 30 games, and the Rangers took 2 out of 3 thanks to Holland’s stellar outing and a long overdue performance from Yu Darvish, Sunday night.
Josh Hamilton is playing much better now. He’s hitting .320 in August, and .359 in his last 10 games. He was 4 for 9 against the Tigers’ best pitching, with 2 homeruns and 4 RBIs. He only struck out twice in the three game series. So, he must have figured out his issues with Copenhagen. If not, then he’s definitely not letting it bother him anymore.
I hate the yankees. Here’s a list of the current yankee players I hate, in the order that I hate them.
2. Derek Jeter
3. Nick Swisher
4. Mark Texl;ak;djoafsdjasda
5. Robinson Cano
6. Eric Chavez
7. Russell Martin
8. Raul Ibanez
9. Ichiro Suzuki
10. Curtis Granderson
Ok, I’ll admit, I don’t hate Curtis Granderson. He’s a stand-up guy, who does great work in the community, and isn’t an arrogant douche like Nick Swisher (pictured below).
(Note: this is an actual picture of Swisher. I did not have to add or change anything to make it more douchey).
So, yeah, I hate the yankees, and that’s why last night was excruciating. Ryan Dempster, in 3 starts with the Rangers, is now 1-1 with an 8.31 ERA. In those 3 games, he has given up 19 runs on 24 hits, 5 homeruns and 6 walks. Opponents are hitting .348 off of him. And the worst thing…the absolutely worst thing…he gave up a grand slam to the guy pictured above. How do you do that? How could any decent human being do anything to make the guy pictured above look good? Is that even possible?
The Rangers lost the first in a four game series with the yankees. Tonight, Matt Harrison goes up against Hiroki Kuroda, who is actually a pretty good pitcher this year. He’s 10-8 with a 3.24 ERA. Going into tonight’s game, the Rangers are 67-47 and lead the AL West by 6 games over Oakland.
