Oswalt Started Instead of Dempster Due to “Personal Reasons”

Roy Oswalt got the start today, against the Blue Jays, instead of Ryan Dempster.  Dempster was absent from the mound due to “personal reasons.”  I don’t know what those personal reasons are.  I heard one rumor that said he couldn’t find his passport and therefore couldn’t travel with the team to Canada.  If that’s true, then Dempster needs a kick in the pants.  But, I’ve also heard he’s going through a divorce and has a sick daughter.  So, if it’s one of those, then let’s cut him some slack.

Oswalt pitched well.  Washington inexplicably pulled him in the 5th inning, though.  At that point he had only allowed 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 5.  Just another example of Washington doing something that makes no sense.  If the Rangers hold onto the lead, Oswalt won’t get the win because he didn’t pitch the required innings.
