I don’t even know where to start about how good David Murphy has been since Ron Washington decided to start playing him every day. Let’s start with why he wasn’t playing routinely to begin with. Wash didn’t want him facing lefties. Yeah, about that. Murphy is absolutely destroying lefty pitching. He’s hitting .408 against them with no signs of slowing down.
Overall, he’s hitting .412 in his last 10 games, .387 in August, and he hit .356 in June and .310 in July.
Since August 16, this is what his lines look like:
yankees—–3 for 5, 2 RBIs
Blue Jays— 2 for 4
Blue Jays—0 for 3
Blue Jays—3 for 4, 1 HR, 2 RBIs, 1 BB
Baltimore—2 for 3, 2 RBIs, 1 BB
Baltimore—3 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
From the beginning of July, his batting average has risen from .286 to .315. If he had the minimum number of at-bats, he would have the highest average on the team.
And most importantly, he’s hitting .391 with runners in scoring position.
On top of all that, he’s playing excellent defense. He’s made only 1 error all season and has the best fielding percentage of any Ranger outfielder. Also, watch this:
That throw to the plate was perfect!
MURPH FOR MVP!
