Holland to Pitch in World Baseball Classic

Derek Holland was chosen to pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic this year.  Matt Harrison and Yu Darvish were also asked, but they both declined.  Holland threw fewer innings than the other two pitchers last season so management considers it less of a risk to have him participating in the tournament.  They are also sending Greg Maddux to keep an eye on him during the WBC.

I went to the WBC several years ago and saw Mexico play the US, in Phoenix.  It’s where myself and my friend Kevin first began discussing Irrelevant Jersey Guy as we sat behind a rather large man wearing an Earl Campbell Houston Oilers jersey.
