The Rangers sent their top prospect back to AAA on Tuesday. After a pretty dismal spring, which I wrote about here, Jurickson Profar will start the season off in the minor leagues. That means both of the Rangers’ top two prospects will not be in the majors to start the season, after both of them had really sub-par spring training performances. Leury Garcia will fill the roster as the utility infielder, a position that was Profar’s to lose, more or less.
The team also named Nick Tepesch as the 5th starter, which will last until probably June when Colby Lewis is scheduled to come back from the disabled list. I’m somewhat surprised at this given how poorly Tepesch pitched this spring. He was 0-1 with a 6.50 ERA and opposing hitters were notching a .329 average on him. A bunch of that ERA came in his last start when he gave up 8 runs over 5 innings. And it should be noted that 5 innings was the longest he threw. He did that twice, once giving up 3 runs and once giving up 8. So, we will see how that works out. That sets the rotation at Harrison, Darvish, Holland, Ogando, and Tepesch.
Baseball officially starts Sunday with the Rangers playing the Astros in Houston IN A DIVISIONAL MATCHUP! Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. Should be fun. Harrison will start and Kinsler will suck!
