I mentioned in my Spring Training post that Mike Olt played pretty poorly this spring. I also mentioned that he was beginning to remind me of another former “big” prospect named Brandon Wood. A guy who had a lot of power potential, but a huge hole in his swing, who became known more for striking out than hitting homeruns. In Olt’s first week in AAA this season, he has done nothing to change that comparison. He’s hitting .063, good for worst batting average on the team, with 10 strikeouts in 16 ABs. That’s worse than Josh Hamilton. Jurickson Profar is hitting .333 with 6 walks and leads the team in on-base percentage (.556). That’s a pretty solid start. Mike Olt is not having a pretty solid start. He’s having a really bad start and I’m starting to wonder if the Rangers should have traded him while his value was at its highest.
